Working Document Helper
Designed to help parties work with Education, Heath and Care Plans through the Working Document Process.
This tool makes it easier to see changes made through the working document process by adding text colour and highlighting to the document following the working document key.
Where it runs
The main application runs entirely client side, in your version of word, and no data in the document leaves your computer. This is known as a client-side application.
How it works - Colour
The Add-in reads each individual character of the document, one by one.
It looks if that character has formatting applied to it, e.g. bold, italic, underlined or strikethrough. Based on that formatting it then applies a text colour, highlight, or both to the character.
It then moves onto the next character until it has reviewed the entire document.
This character level inspection means that no change is missed as might be the case if it reviewed each full word.
How it is built
All our tools are built using html, CSS and Javascript or Typescript and leverage JQuery for interaction with word documents.
If you want more information about how to develop word Add-ins look at Microsoft's Documentation
How it works - Clean
The Add-in reads each individual character of the document, one by one.
It looks if that character has underlined formatting, which in the tribunal key means that it is agreed, and:
if the character is underlined and strikethrough, it deletes it
if the character is underlined and not strikethrough, it removes the underline
It then moves onto the next character until it has reviewed the entire document.
It really is that simple.
